Something is missing. There’s an entire category of classical music that simply doesn’t exist anymore, at least with the same grandeur and scale as before. At some point in the not-too-distant past, people were packing the symphony halls to hear the latest from living composers. There’s something drastically different about the state of not just classical music, but all of the arts. It doesn’t take long to realize there have been earth-shattering differences in the arts since the beginning of the 20th century.
This project exists to figure out what happened and explore the question of if there is anything we can do about it. Can classical music reign with the same grandeur that it did before? Are there much larger and more fundamental issues such as the hatred of Western civilization as it was that need to be tackled first? Or do you restore a love for Western civilization by creating great classical music again? What should we think about the state of classical music institutions and other institutions of artistic patronage? Can we create an ecosystem where new composers can learn and receive patronage to create the sorts of works that we haven’t seen in 70 years?
